Winterizing A Pondless Waterfall
By Ted Greiner
If you live in the mild winter climate and temperatures do not get below freezing very long then you probably will want to leave it running all winter. Remember to keep the water flowing by refilling your basin on a regular basis.
If you live up north, we recommend you shut down the waterfall and stream. There is too much risk with the long streams of getting ice dams and this causes the water to divert over the liner creating what looks like a leak.
Shutting down the Pondless.
To shut down the Pondless waterfall, you must remove the pump and disconnect the check valve. Store pump in garage or basement in a bucket of water.
If you DO NOT disconnect the check valve you may find that it may get a crack and you may have problems in the spring. This disconnection from the pipe also ensures that the water has been removed from the pipe.
